PONOKA -- A 50-year-old Ponoka resident is facing charges after a road rage incident in early April.
Ponoka RCMP say the incident unfolded on Apr. 4, 2026, between the driver of a truck and cyclist on 50 Street. The victim reported that he was riding his bicycle home when he noticed a truck following him and taking photographs of him. The victim then used his cellphone to take a photograph of the truck, which prompted the male driver to exit his vehicle and confront him.
During the confrontation, it’s reported that the suspect retrieved a baseball bat from his truck and proceeded to smash the victim's bicycle and cart. The man then allegedly threatened the victim with the bat. Police say the two individuals were not known to each other.
As a result of the investigation, 50-year-old Ponoka resident Anthony Stewart has been charged with:
- Assault with a weapon
- Uttering threats
- Mischief under $5,000
Stewart was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Ponoka on June 12, 2026.
