Park West R8 Land Use Bylaw Amendment Receives First Reading
At last night’s meeting, Council gave first reading to amended Land Use Bylaw 2726/LUO/25. The proposed amendment to the Land Use Bylaw redistricts 4204 Veterans Boulevard from C2 – General Commercial to R8 – High Density Residential. The proposed change supports future residential development in the South Business Park and aligns with the Municipal Development Plan and neighbourhood plan.

Council Approves Funding for 28 Street and Highway 16A Intersection Development
The Town has been in formal discussions with Stony Plain Land Inc., the developer of the North Industrial lands, regarding significant updates to the area north of Highway 16A. At last night’s meeting, Council approved a budget allocation of $2.4 million in 2026 to support the construction of a new intersection at 28 Street and Highway 16A.
Funding for the intersection development will be drawn from off-site levy funds collected from the developer to assist in financing critical infrastructure required to support the area’s growth.

Metrix Group LLP Appointed as External Auditor
Council has appointed Metrix Group LLP as the Town of Stony Plain’s external auditor for a three-year term beginning with the 2025 fiscal year audit, with the option to extend the appointment for an additional three years.
Metrix Group was selected through a competitive Request for Proposal process, receiving the highest overall score. The appointment meets requirements under the Municipal Government Act and the Town’s financial policies.

Council Approves Option for Additional Residential Waste Cart
Last night, Council approved the option for residents to request an additional 120 litre waste cart for regular solid waste collection. The decision follows a community-wide cart changeout in Q2 2025 and growing requests for additional capacity.
To implement the program, Administration will bring forward amendments to the Solid Waste Management Bylaw and the Fees and Charges Bylaw for consideration at the August 25, 2025 Council Meeting. Fees for the additional cart will include a one-time $50 administration fee, $90 delivery fee, $15 monthly utility charge, and a $35 pickup fee if service is discontinued. Council also approved the option for residents to exchange the 240 litre waste cart currently provided for a 120 litre cart.
