COCHRANE -- The Alberta Government has announced plans for a pair of major school projects in Parkland County.

For Spruce Grove, the province has announced funding for the Parkland School Division to undertake the design phase for its addition to Brookwood School. Brookwood is a Kindergarten to Grade 4 institution serving approximately 525 students. The school was first opened in 1970 and offers both a regular program and a Christian program, along with Early Education classes.

In Stony Plain, funding has been secured by Conseil scolaire Centre-Nord to proceed with the planning phase for a new French immersion Kindergarten to Grade 12 school in the community. Conseil scolaire Centre-Nord is a French-language school authority created in 1994.

Speaking in Cochrane, Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides said he believes the new schools will address the growing student demand faced by schools in both Spruce Grove and Stony Plain.

"All of these school projects are part of our generational $8.6 billion ‘Schools Now’ program," said Nicolaides. "I am confident that Budget 2026 will build schools where families need them most, giving Alberta students the supports they need to learn and thrive close to home."

The plans were announced as part of forty new school projects slated to take place in Alberta through Budget 2026. This brings the total number of school projects -- which includes both the creation and renovation of schools -- to 161.
