Suspect charged after break-and-enters, assault

LEDUC -- RCMP have charged a Camrose resident in connection with multiple break-and-enters in Leduc.

Mounties say they were dispatched on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026 at 7:27 a.m. after receiving a report of and break-and-enter in progress at a residence in the 4400 block of 48A street in Leduc. Upon arrival, they located the homeowner who had been involved in a physical confrontation with the suspect. It's alleged that the suspect had struck the homeowner with an ice scraper. 

Police located the suspect a short distance away and arrested him without further incident. Their investigation into the incident revealed that he had also broken into three additional residences.

24-year-old Luke Philip Johnson of Camrose was charged with multiple offences:

  • Break and enter with intent (x4);
  • Assault with a weapon;
  • Uttering threats (x2);
  • Theft under $5000;
  • Mischief (x3);
  • Fail to comply with probation order;
  • Possession of property obtained by crime.

"Very quick response from our officers and timely accurate information from our witnesses was crucial in the quick arrest of this suspect," said RCMP Inspector Kiel Samotej.

Johnson was brought before a Justice of the Peace and remanded into custody with his next court date set for Jan. 15, 2026, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Leduc.
