LEDUC COUNTY -- Leduc County has approved its final budget for 2025.
This year's budget comes in at $138,573,675 -- which is comprised of $111,903,630 in operating expenses and $26,670,045 of capital expenses. According to the County, the budget builds on the municipality's efforts to enhance public infrastructure, and includes new funding for road projects, recreation supports, and public transportation. Speaking to the One, Leduc County Mayor Tanni Doblanko talked about some of the new projects for 2025.
"We are going to be investing over $22,000,000 this year into our road projects, road maintenance, and bridges," said Doblanko. "We always look at that as being key for all of our residents and businesses."
The budget for 2025 outlines total allocations of $4.2 million for public transit, $2.25 million in cost-share recreation support to five partner municipalities, $422,000 for support to not-for-profit facilities and community recreation and cultural grants, and $283,290 to support libraries. Mayor Doblanko says the goal of budgeting for Leduc County is to strike a balance.
"What might be important to a senior might not be important the same thing that's important to somebody with a young family or a starting business," said Doblanko. "We strive really hard to have a balance for those types of things, for the outcomes and what we're trying to achieve for our residents and businesses."
Meantime, Leduc County residents can expect property taxes to remain the same this year as they were in 2024. Council voted to hold the line on tax rates due to substantial revenue growth over the past twelve months. The municipality saw taxable assessment values grow from $9.86 billion to $10.7 billion (8.48 per cent) resulting in $4.7 million in additional tax dollars for 2025. Part of the decision to keep tax rates the same as last year included the need to offset costs for the increased provincial education requisition.
"We are able to continue to provide and maintain services, and continue to invest in the County without a tax dollar increase for 2025," said Doblanko. "For our residents and businesses, there will be an increase on their tax bill because of the increase in school requisition."
Property tax notices will be mailed to residents and corporate citizens on May 15th.
