LEDUC -- A local teenager has been named as one of only five BGC Youth of the Year award winners.
Mackenzie Macdougall received the national honours for her local leadership and community involvement in Leduc. The Youth of the Year program, powered by BGC Canada, celebrates the achievements of exceptional young leaders within the Boys and Girls Club federation. The organization says it provides opportunities for youth to build leadership skills, gain national exposure, and serve as ambassadors for their peers and communities.
According to the Boys and Girls Club of Leduc, Mackenzie is the only award winner located west of Ontario. They add that her recognition is a win for the entire Leduc region, and that her journey shows what happens when young people have access to belonging, mentorship, and opportunity.
This past summer, Mackenzie took part in a series of events and leadership opportunities as part of her Youth of the Year journey. In November, she will travel to Toronto to take part in more leadership and public speaking training, connect with fellow finalists, and attend the national celebration at the Velma Theatre.
