LEDUC -- The City of Leduc has adopted a new strategic plan to guide the municipality to the end of the decade.

The new plan for 2027 to 2030 aims to guide decision-making for future growth, investments, and municipal services, while also informing upcoming budget and planning discussions. Mayor Lars Hansen tells 93.1 The One that the four main principles contained within the new document will help guide the City of Leduc into the next decade.

"Our vision for a great life, a caring community, and a thriving region remains the same; this plan strengthens how we deliver on that vision by focusing on building a more connected community for all people," said Hansen. "Over the next four years, we will focus on building a community that's safe, resilient, and ready for the future, through thoughtful growth, strong foundations, and meaningful partnerships."

Hansen notes that some of the changes in their new strategic plan, when compared to the plan for 2023 to 2026, relate to a more forward-thinking approach to make the municipality as ready as possible to thrive in the coming years. The new plan lays out several primary goals, one of which being to ensure a safe and supportive community moving forward.

"We have a great RCMP detachment here in the City of Leduc and great enforcement services," said Hansen. "So, continuing to be very collaborative with both of those, to ensure a safe and supportive community, is very important."

The other main goals laid out in the plan relate to responsible growth, strengthening municipal foundations, and boosting the city's role as a regional partner. Hansen also adds that one of their planned initiatives is to capitalize on the completion of the 65 Ave Interchange through the Leduc Landing Industrial Park in order to bolster the city's commercial base.

"Existing businesses can expand, and new businesses can locate there. That connectivity to the south part of the airport is a huge part of that," said Hansen. "There's a large opportunity for Council to leverage that, as well as taking into consideration all the other types of businesses -- the small businesses, the local economy -- those are all important as well."

Leduc City Council will continue to be guided by the current strategic plan for 2023 to 2026 until the end of the year.
