LEDUC -- The Leduc RCMP has confirmed that a dead body found in the city earlier this week was not the result of a criminal act.
The investigation was spearheaded by the RCMP's General Investigations Section after the body was discovered at approximately 5:50 am on the morning of March 17th. According to Constable Lindsay McNab, the body was found in the outdoor area near 54th Avenue and 47th Street in the downtown area of Leduc.
"It was in the grassy area," said Constable McNab. "Near the railroad tracks, along 47th Street."
At the time of the discovery on Monday morning, police had believed that the death was not suspicious. In a statement provided late Thursday, they confirmed that no criminality appeared to be involved.
Constable McNab also confirmed that the deceased body was of a female, but did not provide an age range. She says that the woman's next of kin has been notified.
