LEDUC -- The next round of public engagement for Leduc's municipal boundary expansion is set for next month.
The expansion was first set in motion in February 2025 when Leduc announced plans to annex a portion of Leduc County lands to the south and southeast of the city. In a statement, the City of Leduc said the move would allow them to ensure orderly future growth and long-term coordinated planning and infrastructure investment.
To help guide the process forward, the first round of public engagement sessions was held in January to gauge landowner and stakeholder concerns. During these consultations, Leduc staff say that feedback was mostly positive, however, some landowners expressed concerns that their taxes will increase if they become a part of the city, while others stated that they don't want to lose their rural lifestyle and the small-town feel of living in the county.
For the next round of consultation, the City of Leduc will be hosting open houses in June and launching an online survey. For affected land owners, the open houses will take place from 2:00–4:00 p.m. on June 17 and from 5:30–7:30 p.m. on June 18. For other interested residents, open houses will be available on June 17 from 5:30–7:30 p.m. and June 18 from 2:00–4:00 p.m. The online survey will be open starting on June 17 and will close on July 15.
"A key focus of this engagement will be the results of the city's 'Growth Management Study', which looks at how much land Leduc will need to support growth over the next 50 years and where future growth makes the most sense," reads a statement from the City of Leduc.
They add that their various technical studies being conducted as part of the annexation process are now nearing completion. These have included a growth management study, historical resource study, agricultural assessments, transportation and infrastructure studies, an environmental and natural areas assessment, and a fiscal impact assessment.
