LEDUC COUNTY -- Leduc County has issued a proclamation in recognition of Public Works Week.
The recognition is held each year in the third week of May to celebrate local professionals who build and maintain essential local infrastructure. Road Operations Director Garett Broadbent says these crews play a critical role in preserving quality of life for residents while fostering thriving communities.
"We use this week to celebrate our employees and the work they do, which includes planning, building, managing, and operating at the heart of our local communities to improve everyday quality of life," said Broadbent. "Leduc County would like to recognize the dedicated efforts of our public works professionals -- road operations crew, engineers, utility technicians and managers, and employees at all levels of government and the private sector."
The theme for this year's Public Works Week, which runs from May 17-23, is "Rooted in Service, Powered by Community". This marks the 66th time the week has been recognized after first launching in May 1960. Leduc County Mayor Tanni Doblanko read the proclamation at their recent Council meeting.
"Whereas it is in the public interest for the citizens, civic leaders, and children in Leduc County, Alberta to gain knowledge of and to maintain an ongoing interest and understanding of the importance of public works and public works programs in their respective communities," read Doblanko. "And, on behalf of Council, I, Mayor Tanni Doblanko of Leduc County, do hereby proclaim the week of May 17 to May 23, 2026, to be National Public Works Week in Leduc County."
