LEDUC -- Leduc's Dr. Woods House Museum will be reopening to the public for the first time in nearly three years.
The historical facility has been closed since late 2023, when work began to transfer operations of the building from the Leduc and District Heritage Society to a new model administered by the City of Leduc. Since that time, the municipality has worked towards determining the size and scope of the collection while also exploring governance and operational models for the museum.
In a recent announcement, the City of Leduc says Dr. Woods' House will once again be open to the public starting on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. The seasonal reopening will see the building operate from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, until Labour Day. Additional hours of 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. have also been added on July 1, August 3, and September 7.
"The city recognizes that heritage is always evolving and that not all stories are fully represented in historical records," reads a statement from Leduc staff. "Ongoing work and community engagement with the museum collection and other historical and cultural assets help shape how heritage is shared and understood over time."
Originally home to Dr. Robert Woods and his family, the building has passed through several hands over the years, including Ronald Earl Ansley, a member of Alberta's legislative assembly from 1935-1963. Dr. Woods House Museum is home to a collection of more than 18,000 artifacts that reflect Leduc's people, places, and stories.
