Al Stafford

Al joined the One in October of 2020, and was named news director shortly after his arrival. He began his broadcast career as a tape editor/overnight studio producer in the busy CKO Toronto newsroom in 1983, while still in university.  He was hired full-time to write the Toronto morning show when he left school in 1985, but soon transferred to Calgary to be a reporter.  In 1986, he was promoted to handle the network's bureau at the Alberta Legislature, and has been a fixture behind the microphone in the Edmonton region ever since.

In addition to his radio career, Al has spent nearly three decades working as a public address announcer.  He's currently the arena voice at Rogers Place for the Edmonton Oilers.  He spent 20 years as PA announcer in Commonwealth Stadium for the Edmonton Eskimos (now Elks) and has also done junior hockey, minor professional baseball and rugby.

Al is also an accomplished musician and songwriter.  He's played in a number of capital region bands over the last two decades.  Currently, he fronts the band Radio Tragedy on guitar, saxophone and lead vocals.
