EDMONTON -- Longtime Wolf Creek Trustee Trudy Bratland has received the ASBA Distinguished Service Award.

First elected as a trustee in 2004, Bratland has served the community for six consecutive terms, spanning 21 years. During her time as a trustee, she has served a total of six years as Board Chair and twice as the Board's Vice-Chair. She received the award at the ASBA's Fall Awards Ceremony on November 16, 2025, in Edmonton.

"It came as a complete surprise to me, as I sat there and watched all of the pictures of me, I was waiting for them to show pictures of the other nominees," said Bratland. "I am so appreciative of my colleagues and the WCPS Division office staff for the well-written nomination. I also appreciate that the ASBA Board of Directors selected me as the successful candidate and for all the kind words, hugs and congratulations that I received that evening."

Bratland represents Ward C in Wolf Creek, which includes several institutions, including Bentley School, Rimbey Elementary School, Rimbey Junior Senior High School, and West Country Outreach School. Wolf Creek Public Schools says that she is known for listening first and keeping students at the centre of every conversation.

"Trudy has this rare ability to lead with both backbone and heart," said Board Chair Luci Henry. "Her impact on Wolf Creek, and on rural public education across Alberta, will be felt for a long time. This award is an honour she has truly earned."

The ASBA Distinguished Service Award recognizes exceptional leadership and vision in education. It honours individuals whose contributions have had a lasting impact on Alberta's educational landscape and highlights their dedication to students and communities.
