PONOKA -- Student enrolment in Wolf Creek Public Schools has decreased by roughly 3.1 per cent since last year.
This is according to the preliminary enrolment numbers released by the school division last month, as classes for the 2026-2027 school year are now well underway. At Ponoka Secondary, enrolment has fallen from 530 students during the 2025-2026 school year to 507 for this year. For Ponoka Elementary, student enrolment was mostly unchanged from the previous year. For the current school year, 153 students are enroled at Crestomere School, and 106 are enrolled at Mecca Glen.
Division-wide, Wolf Creek Public Schools reports 7,258 students for the current school year, which is down from 7,490 from the year prior. The highest number of students continues to be at Lacombe Composite High School, as they lead the division in enrolment with 768 students. The Brick Learning Centre in Ponoka has 70 students for the current school year.
Rimbey Elementary was one of the few schools across the region that actually saw an increase in enrolment, going from 295 students last year to 312 for the 2026-2027 school year.
