PONOKA -- The Town of Ponoka has provided an update on its Highway 53 Corridor Improvement Project.
As of this past week, work crews completed the installation of trees along Rodeo Drive (Highway 53 from Highway 2A to 50 Street), the paving of trails, and the installation of light columns and tree lighting on the south side of the roadway. This followed the work from the previous week that involved electrical and landscaping installations in the area.
For this week, Ponoka staff say that electrical installation of streetlights and tree lighting on the north side of Rodeo Drive is slated for completion, while landscaping along the boulevards will also continue over the next several days.
It's now been unveiled that upgrades to the 46 Street intersection on Highway 53, including paving, concrete, lighting, and realignment of that intersection, will take place sometime early next year. These improvements will require trenching and excavation to complete underground electrical work and utility relocation, which is why the work is scheduled for Spring 2026 rather than this year.
The trail connection to 46 Street, remaining landscaping between 50 Street and 46 Street, and light pole installations from 46 Street to 38 Street, will also be completed sometime in 2026.
