PONOKA -- Ponoka RCMP have arrested a pair of suspects in connection with recent thefts at a local parking garage.
This comes as a total of two vehicles were burglarized on November 16, 2025, at Tamarack Condo Court on 52 Avenue. After reviewing the building's surveillance footage, RCMP were able to identify both of the suspects involved in the thefts. Corporal Troy Savinkoff says that the initial suspect was arrested the same day after being identified by a patrol officer.
"A Ponoka RCMP officer was making patrols and was able to locate one of the suspects, who was subsequently arrested," said Cpl. Troy Savinkoff. "We haven't released the name of that suspect because the charges are still pending. Once the charges are sworn, we will follow up with providing the name."
Cpl. Savinkoff says the second suspect was arrested a day later, after being spotted carrying a backpack full of stolen property in the Town of Ponoka. Savinkoff says the suspect was already wanted on 43 prior warrants out of Edmonton.
"I can tell you those charges out of EPS were all property crime, theft-related offences," said Cpl. Savinkoff. "He was arrested and charged, and when he was searched, we actually found other stolen items, including key fobs, and other identifying information from other victims of vehicle thefts in the area."
As a result, 32-year-old Ponoka resident Gabriel Tourangeau has been charged with multiple offences:
- Breaking-and-entering
- Possession of identity documents
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 (x2)
- Fail to comply with release conditions (x2)
- Possession of break-in tools
Tourangeau was taken before a Justice of the Peace and remanded into custody with future court dates in Ponoka.
