MASKWACIS -- A male suspect has been charged with murder after a deadly shooting on the Louis Bull First Nation.
RCMP say they responded to the shooting on Feb. 4, 2026, at 12:09 a.m. Upon arrival, police located two victims. One of the victims, 23-year-old Zyon Littlepoplar, was found deceased. The second victim, a 54-year-old male, was taken to hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition.
The incident prompted a shelter-in-place to be issued in the community, which lasted for several hours. Corporal Troy Savinkoff says RCMP then began deploying a great deal of resources to the community to both investigate the occurrence and locate the suspect. Responding officers then located an abandoned vehicle nearby, which was believed to be associated with the suspect.
"We called in our emergency response team, our air services, as well as a police dog, to ultimately track the suspect from this abandoned vehicle," said Cpl. Savinkoff.
He says officers were successful in locating and arresting three suspects. The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit was then deployed and took carriage of the investigation, which was able to determine that only one of the suspects was responsible for the shooting. The other two individuals were released without charges.
As a result, R-C-M-P have charged 27-year-old Edmonton resident Dallas Daniel Lee with:
- Second-Degree-Murder;
- Attempted Murder.
Lee made his first court appearance on Feb. 5, 2026, in Wetaskiwin.
