PONOKA -- Central Alberta is expected to be hit with a blast of unfriendly winter weather on Wednesday.
According to Environment Canada, heavy snow is anticipated to blanket much of the region starting early in the morning. The agency says they expect anywhere between 10 and 15 centimetres of snow throughout the day, in addition to strong winds of up to 60 kilometres per hour.
The combined snow and wind could result in a high volume of blowing snow, as motorists are advised that road conditions could be extremely poor as a result. It's also noted that the conditions could result in visibility being reduced to none in some areas.
The nasty conditions are expected to continue on Wednesday night and into Thursday morning. Motorists are asked to avoid all unnecessary travel and to drive with caution. To report severe weather, you can send an email to ABstorm@ec.gc.ca, call 1-800-239-0484.
