RIMBEY -- Rimbey RCMP say that overall criminal code violations have seen a noteworthy decrease year-over-year.
This comes as the Mounties have released their latest crime statistics for Q1 of the 2025-2026 fiscal year, covering the months of April, May, and June. According to the data, overall criminal code violations decreased by 14 per cent when compared to the same period in 2024. This was driven by a significant drop in thefts under $5,000, as that number fell to 18 from 36 last year.
Meantime, other areas that saw noted decreases were mischief-property damage, and possession of stolen goods. Thefts of motor vehicles have also decreased, and have continued to trend downward over the past several years since hitting a high of 32 incidents in 2021. Incidents of fraud, sexual offences, and mischief were some of the categories that saw increases during the first quarter.
The Rimbey RCMP notes in their report some of their public engagement efforts over the past several months. In June, Mounties attended the Community Synergy/CMAC Crime Reduction double meeting, which had approximately 40+ people in attendance. They discussed the APP and Rimbey detachment priorities, and also had an open question and answer period for the attendees.
For the detachment staffing levels, there are seven established positions, with six officers currently working and one officer on parental leave.
