LACOMBE -- A four-vehicle collision near Lacombe has resulted in the death of a 71-year-old woman.
Blackfalds RCMP say the crash occurred along the QE II north of Highway 12 just before 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16th. Though an investigation into the incident is still ongoing, police say that it was caused by a Ford F-350 striking a line of slower-moving traffic.
As a result of the collision, a female resident of Newfoundland was pronounced deceased at the scene. Four other people were taken by ambulance to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. According to the RCMP, a family dog also died as a result of the crash.
The highway was closed for several hours as emergency responders and police investigators attended to the scene. It's noted by the RCMP that they do not believe alcohol was a factor in the serious crash. Police send their condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
