PONOKA -- The date has been set for the fourth annual Ponoka Battle River Run.
The annual event hosted by the Town of Ponoka in partnership with R-2 Fitness will take place on April 11, starting at 9:00 a.m. Like in years past, participants will run through the scenic Battle River through Ponoka's Battle River Valley trail system.
This year's run will feature a 10K, 5K, and a 1K kids loop, with the start and finish lines located at the Baden Powell Adventure Center. Organizers say that the 5K loop will be run entirely on paved trails while the 10K will include some stretches of off-road trails.
Registration fees are set at $65.00 for adults aged 18 and over, which includes chip-timed results, post-race snacks, and a long-sleeved shirt. All proceeds from the event will fund graduation scholarships at Ponoka Secondary Campus and St. Augustine School. It's also noted that for the 1K kids loop, no registration is required and participation is free.
As an official chip-timed race, medals will be awarded to top 3 overall male and female finishers in both the 10K and the 5K. Results will be provided with the following age categories for male and female in both 5K and 10K: 13 and under, 14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 plus. The race map and race start will be distributed closer to the date of the event.
