PONOKA -- Ponoka Council is looking to rename a piece of town property after the late Ted Dillon.

Dillon spent several decades serving the Town of Ponoka and passed away on March 9, 2024, at the age of 73. Born in Ponoka in 1950, Dillon became the Town's fire chief in 1990, and held the role for a total of twenty-six years. Following his time leading the local fire department, Dillon was then elected as a member of Ponoka Council where he served seven years.

In a motion to be tabled in the coming days, Ponoka Council will be considering options to honour Ted Dillon's lasting legacy. Currently, the parking lot on 51 Avenue is the front runner to be renamed after the longtime community builder, however, Council will be directing Administration to bring back recommendations for other areas that could potentially be renamed instead.

Furthermore, it has been requested to have the renaming be completed prior to next month’s Fall Fest, in order to have a renaming celebration at that time. Dillon is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barb, and his sons Chris, Mike, and Brad.
