PONOKA -- Public consultation is now underway as part of Ponoka's budget planning process.
This engagement with residents of the township aims to establish priorities to be considered by Ponoka Council during their official budget deliberations in the fall. During the consultation process, residents are encouraged to have their say about what they would like to see included in the 2027 budget.
"The annual public consultation is an important part of the Town's budget planning process," said Kevin Ferguson, Mayor of the Town of Ponoka. "Inviting community input helps Town Council make informed and thoughtful decisions that better reflect the priorities and values of our citizens."
Members of the public can participate in this process through various methods, including "Conversations with Council" events slated to take place throughout this upcoming summer. This will give residents a chance to share ideas and ask questions about the budget process.
The first event was originally set for Monday, June 22, but was cancelled due to heavy rainfall. Future events can be found on the Town of Ponoka online engagement website at LetsTalkPonoka.ca/2027-Budget-Consultation.
In addition, the municipality is also encouraging citizens to fill out a "Citizen Input Survey" online as part of a virtual budget open house. The online open house will give residents the opportunity to learn more about the budget planning process, how funds are allocated, and answer frequently asked questions about the budget.
Paper copies of the Citizen Input Survey will be available at all Conversations with Council events, and at the Town Office, the Ponoka Aquaplex, and the Ponoka Arena Complex during regular business hours. The results of the public engagement will be summarized and presented to Council for review and consideration during the 2027 budget deliberations on November 23 and 24.
