PONOKA -- The Town of Ponoka has partnered with the RCMP to launch a free online bike registry.

According to the municipality, the goal of the initiative is to aid in returning stolen bikes to their rightful owners. Residents can register their bikes by visiting the Ponoka Arena Complex (4410 54 Street), Ponoka Aquaplex (5315 46 Avenue), or by phoning 403-783-0131. Ponoka staff will then create an online profile that will be shared with the Ponoka RCMP with the make, model, and serial number of your bike, along with your contact information.

In the event that a bike is stolen, the Ponoka RCMP will consult the bike registry and contact the owner.

If you become the victim of a bike theft, you're asked to contact the 310-RCMP (7267). You can also report a crime through the Alberta RCMP app (found on Google Play or the Apple Store) or online. This step is necessary to place an insurance claim or to collect your bike from any law enforcement agency that may recover your bike.
