PONOKA -- Ponoka Elementary School has officially wrapped up its Olympic Spirit Week.
The week-long event kicked off on Friday, Feb. 6, in celebration of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. According to Wolf Creek Public Schools, the goal was to bring PES students together in the spirit of friendly competition, teamwork, and national pride.
This saw each grade at Ponoka Elementary randomly assigned a country to represent, selected from top medal-winning nations from the most recent Olympic Games. Throughout the past week, students followed their assigned country's medal count while also earning points through participation in a variety of school-wide spirit days.
"Olympic Spirit Week is a fun way to bring our school together and create a shared sense of excitement," said Nathan McEntee, principal of Ponoka Elementary. "It's been great to see students already getting into it—supporting their countries, showing school pride, and building that feeling of community that makes our school so special."
He says that the opening ceremonies set the tone for the week, as students proudly represented their assigned nations while also cheering on Canada's athletic achievements.
