PONOKA -- The Town of Ponoka is exploring plans to prohibit portable toilets on residential properties.
This is according to the township's latest Master Projects List, which specifies a possible amendment to their Community Standards Bylaw to bring the changes forward. It's noted in the report that portable outdoor toilets on residential properties could be banned if the changes are approved later this year.
An exception to the proposed regulations would be for special events within the Town of Ponoka. In these cases, outdoor portable toilets will be permitted to be placed on residential properties 24 hours prior to an event -- as long as they are removed 24 hours after the event has ended.
Ponoka staff note that if passed, non-compliance with the new regulations will result in "appropriate fines as outlined in the bylaw". As per their latest update, a final draft for the proposed amendment is now under review by municipal administration.
The draft for the Town of Ponoka's new Community Standards Bylaw also contains measures to allow for enhanced enforcement of illegal camping within the municipality.
