SYLVAN LAKE -- An investigation is ongoing after a fatal single-vehicle crash this past weekend in Sylvan Lake.
According to RCMP, the crash occurred on Highway 20 between Township Roads 293 and 294 on Saturday night. In their original release, the Mounties notified the public of a serious single motor vehicle collision involving commercial equipment. The particular stretch of Highway 20 southbound was closed for several hours, and the public was asked to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
Police say that preliminary information suggests that a boom truck was traveling southbound when it veered off the road into a ditch. It's not known if this was due to road conditions or other factors. Upon their arrival to the scene, police pronounced the truck's 44-year-old driver, a resident of Onoway, Alberta, deceased. Meantime, the passenger was taken by EMS to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The matter is still under investigation, and updates will be provided if they become available.
