PONOKA -- Local officials have provided an update on this past weekend's fire at the Prairie Mobile Home Park.
According to Ponoka County Fire Services, the blaze broke out at an area trailer shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 13. The East District Department arrived on scene a short time later, and was able to gain access to the rear of the property. This allowed them to battle the fire from both directions and prevent it from spreading any further.
The Department notes that the amount of fuel load in the yard was a challenge for its members, and resulted in them needing to bring in additional equipment to assist in their efforts. Fire damage was sustained to the building of origin, in addition to a small area at the rear of a mobile home to the west, with heat damage to siding on the mobile home and shed to the east.
While an investigation into the fire is still ongoing, Ponoka County Fire Services says that their preliminary findings indicate that the cause of the fire was electrical in nature. They thank residents for their assistance to ensure the fire department could get where they needed to minimize the damage.
The Prairie Mobile Home Park is located just off Highway 2A and 50th Street in the Town of Ponoka.
