ERMINESKIN -- Maskwacis RCMP issued a hold and secure for three schools on the Ermineskin Cree Nation on Thursday, Oct. 8.
This was in response to alleged weapon threats at the Maskwacis Cree Junior High School shortly before noon. Out of an abundance of caution, police also issued hold and secures for the Cree Nation's other two schools: Ermineskin Elementary and the Theresa C. Wildcat Early Learning Centre.
A little over an hour later, Maskwacis RCMP issued a statement saying that the hold and secure status at all three schools had ended, and that all staff and students were able to resume regular activities. They confirmed that there was no active threat or risk to the public, but that their investigation into the reports remains ongoing.
"The Maskwacis RCMP appreciate the understanding from all parents and students that these investigations take time," reads a statement from Constable Catlin Chiasson. "Public and student safety remains a priority."
