RIMBEY -- A new initiative is being launched in Rimbey to recognize youth leadership.
The "Great Actions Project" will acknowledge young people who are observed making a positive contribution to the community. The program is being spearheaded by the Rimbey Lions Club, in conjunction with the local RCMP detachment.
According to the Lions Club, the Mounties will identify strong youth stewardship during their daily patrols of the municipality. Some of the good deeds they'll be looking for will include helping seniors cross the street, assisting a younger child or peer in various situations, shoveling snow, cutting lawns, and obeying the rules of the road when walking and cycling.
A young person who is observed doing something "great" in the community may be "positively ticketed" by a member of the RCMP with a gift from the Rimbey Lions Club and participating businesses. The Lions Club says they're excited to encourage and reward positive interactions and kindness across the community.
They're now seeking support from the municipality to grow the new program, and their goal is to partner with at least six local businesses.
