Information session scheduled for proposed Clive 8-16 facility

CENTRAL ALBERTA -- Central Alberta residents are invited to attend an open house to share input and learn more about a major AI data centre proposed near the Village of Clive. 

The project, known as the "Clive 8-16 Facility", is being proposed six kilometres southeast of the village by developer Armada Nowlit Energy. It seeks to construct a new 19.8-megawatt natural gas-fired power generation and modular data-processing plant. A start date for construction of the facility is tentatively scheduled for March 2027, should the necessary approvals be granted.

According to the developer, the current design would use a closed-loop cooling system featuring a roughly 1,500-litre service-water tank and a separate holding tank. They also note that wastewater would be collected for off-site servicing and that enclosed equipment and specified exhaust attenuation are included in the design. The facility would be accessed using Range Road 243.

Natural gas is proposed to be supplied through a connection to existing distribution infrastructure, while final connection details remain subject to utility and engineering confirmation. The current proposal uses generated electricity within the facility, and no export to the Alberta grid is proposed at this time. 

Residents can learn about the proposal and provide comments directly to the project team during a public information session set for Wednesday, Sept. 30, at the Tees Community Hall from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
