PONOKA -- Hundreds of people gathered in Ponoka to celebrate the life of Cory Spelt.
The funeral procession for the deceased 18-year-old saw a long line of tractors and trucks make their way from the Town of Ponoka to the Bismark Cemetery just north of Crestomere. This came following a service held at Sonrise Christian Reformed Church, which saw hundreds of people turn out to pay their respects to the beloved community member.
The obituary for Spelt underscores his passion for all things farming, whether it be out in the field or in conversation about various pieces of farming equipment. It also states his passion for diesel trucks, the sound of a hard-running engine, all things mechanical, diesel tractors, and especially vintage Deutz tractors. He is survived by his fiancé Cadia Turcotte.
The procession held on Tuesday, Feb. 10, saw local police on site in Ponoka during the afternoon to direct traffic at the intersections of 46 Street and Highway 53, and at Highway 2A and Highway 53. The Town of Ponoka noted in a statement that they expected a large number of tractors, pickup trucks, and other vehicles to make their way through the municipality.
According to his obituary, Cory Spelt passed away on Saturday, Jan. 31st, after a collision in his truck.
