MASKWACIS -- Four individuals have been charged after being found in possession of a modified firearm.
Police say the incident took place on Jan. 15, 2026, during a traffic stop conducted along Highway 2A. It's reported that the driver of the vehicle was initially arrested for driving with a suspended license, and that during the arrest, a prohibited weapon was discovered in the vehicle's rear seat.
"In plain view in the rear seat -- along with a seven-year-old child -- was a firearm," said RCMP Constable Catlin Chaisson. "It was a Ruger Mini-14 rifle with .223 ammunition with a defaced serial number."
At that point in the investigation, all four occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody and charged with various offences. Cst. Chaisson adds that CSS was also brought in, and the child was turned over to family services.
"CSS was called and consulted, and they came out immediately and apprehended the child due to the circumstances," said Cst. Chaisson.
