PONOKA -- Two men were arrested after being clocked going nearly 200 km/h along Highway 2A.
Ponoka RCMP say the incident occurred on August 20, 2025, and resulted in two Maskwacis residents being charged with multiple offences. Mounties say they originally observed the vehicle traveling 190 km/h along Highway 2A entering the Town of Ponoka. Despite an unsuccessful initial attempt to pull the vehicle over, Corporal Troy Savinkoff says police were able to locate the two men a short time later.
"We attempted a traffic stop, however, the vehicle continued to flee," said Cpl. Savinkoff. "We didn't pursue due to the dangerous nature of those speeds coming into the municipality. We did keep our eyes open for the vehicle, and we were able to successfully locate it again."
As a result of the arrests, the driver, 37-year-old Brandon Buffalo and passenger 45-year-old Wydell Rabbit, were charged with multiple offences. Buffalo was charged with flight from a police officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, and more, while Rabbit was charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, and possession of a dangerous weapon. It was revealed during the investigation that the vehicle was stolen, and that the men were in possession of a "homemade handgun".
Both men are set to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Ponoka on September 12, 2025.
