PONOKA -- Kevin Ferguson is looking to secure a second term as the Mayor of Ponoka.

Ferguson was first elected as a Councillor in 2017 before becoming the Town's Mayor in 2021. He notes that he has a strong commitment to maintaining Ponoka's assets and infrastructure, while also building for the future. Speaking to 89.7 The One, Ferguson talked about what his goals would be if re-elected on October 20th.

"I will continue to look at Ponoka in terms of how we build things, so that ten, fifteen years from now, Ponoka is set to launch into bigger and better things," said Ferguson.

He cites a number of accomplishments during his first term as Mayor, including the revitalization of 51 Avenue. Ferguson adds that if re-elected, one of the main objectives will be mapping out what the construction of a new Ponoka Arena could look like.

"It would be like a multi-complex," said Ferguson. "Not only would you have ice for hockey and curling, but you'd also have pitches for soccer, indoor tracks, and so on."

Mayor Ferguson was born in Saskatchewan and moved to Ponoka as a young teenager when his father took the position of elevator agent with Pioneer Grain. Prior to joining the Town of Ponoka as a Councillor in 2017, Ferguson was a teacher for thirty years. He's also the former director of musicals for the Klaglahachie Fine Arts Society, and his education includes a Bachelor's degree from the University of Calgary.
