PONOKA -- Katherine Steblyk is running in next week's municipal election.
Steblyk's platform includes plans to support local businesses and encourage sustainable development. Speaking to 89.7 The One, she says that she also plans to advocate for enhanced community safety if elected on October 20th.
"I really support visible policing through the RCMP, the community peace officers, and also bylaw enforcement," said Steblyk. "Just so everyone feels really safe and secure."
She moved back to the community after retiring from a 30-year teaching career and currently serves as Chair of the Ponoka and District Health Foundation. Her platform also includes plans to attract new families while providing transparency and accountability for residents. She talked about what made her decide to run in this year's municipal election.
"I want to make sure that it's a safe, vibrant, thriving community," said Steblyk. "I want to make sure that we provide opportunities for all generations, while also preserving the small-town charm that I really appreciate."
Currently, Katherine serves as the President of the Tamarack Court Condo Association and is a member of the Ponoka Food Bank Board. Her previous volunteer experience includes working at the Leduc Food Bank and serving as a member of the Beaumont Library Board.
