PONOKA -- Councillor Clayton Nelson will be seeking re-election in next week's civic election.
Nelson is eyeing a third term on Ponoka Council after first being elected in 2017 and then re-elected in 2021. Speaking to 89.7 The One, he spoke about what his priorities would be if re-elected.
"I'm going to focus on easing business regulations while keeping taxes low," said Nelson. "Boosting public safety with more community programs, and continuing to bring us all together with events like Fall Fest."
Prior to his time on Ponoka Council, Nelson served as Vice Chair of the Southern Alberta Chapter of the Canadian Institute of Management from 2013 to 2017. Over the past four years, he's been involved with various local boards and committees, including the Ponoka Ag Events Centre Society and the North Red Deer River Water Services Commission. Nelson is calling on voters to continue to support his campaign.
"I know what it takes to be a Town Councillor, why it's important, and what it takes to get the job done," said Nelson. "I'm not coming in as some doe-eyed dreamer who thinks I can change the world overnight. I do understand how the real government works and what we can actually do, and what we're responsible for. I plan to keep delivering that."
Nelson is a third-generation resident of Ponoka and is also the Director of Operations at Battle River Pharmaceuticals. He says his vision for Ponoka is to create a stronger, more robust economy through the manufacturing and technology sectors.
