PONOKA -- Chris Struik will be running for a spot on Ponoka Council in next week's civic election.
Struik says that some of her goals if elected would include updating outdated policies and providing transparency for residents. She spoke about some of her past experience in conversation with 89.7 The One.
"I have been a part of the community in a lot of different ways," said Struik. "I do family and children's programming, contract work, I've worked at the library as well, in restaurants, low-income housing, and I volunteer at non-profits."
Struik says that if elected, some of her goals would pertain to improving public infrastructure to enhance safety for residents. She adds that she would also work to develop a long-term vision for the community.
"Have conversations focused on building long-term visions, and how to create and market Ponoka as a destination for more than just the Stampede," said Struik. "And how to draw more residents and visitors into the downtown core during major events."
Struik will be up against nine other candidates running for Ponoka Council in next week's election, which is set for Monday, October 20, 2025.
