Stony Plain, AB

At approximately 1:18 a.m. on May 8, the Stony Plain Fire Department received multiple 911 calls reporting a fire accompanied by loud explosions in the North Business Park, specifically along Boulder Boulevard. Upon arrival, emergency crews discovered four vehicles fully engulfed in flames, with a fifth vehicle sustaining damage.

No injuries were reported, and no nearby buildings were affected by the incident.

Three fire trucks responded to the scene — two from the Stony Plain Fire Department and one from Spruce Grove — and worked swiftly to extinguish the blaze and secure the area. The vehicles involved were business owned vehicles.

Given the circumstances, including the multiple explosions reported by witnesses, the cause of the fire is being treated as suspicious. The RCMP are currently investigating the incident.

“This was a dangerous situation with multiple vehicles burning and reports of explosions. Thanks to the fast response and coordinated efforts of our crews, we were able to contain the fire and prevent it from escalating further,” said Fire Chief Jason Nesbitt. “We’re relieved there were no injuries, and we are working closely with the RCMP to support the ongoing investigation.”

Anyone with information about the fire is encouraged to contact the Parkland RCMP. No further details will be released from the Town of Stony Plain.
