Spruce Grove, AB
The City of Spruce Grove and the Spruce Grove Saints are excited to finalize a partnership that will see the Junior Hockey Club play out of the Thompson Family Arena in the newly constructed Heavy Metal Place, starting in the 2025/26 season, and for many years to come.
The City and the Saints first reached an agreement in principle in December 2023, while the facility was still under construction. Since then, both parties have been working to finalize the details of this long-term partnership.
“This is the culmination of so much work,” said Mayor Jeff Acker. “The Spruce Grove Saints are a huge part of our community, and we are so excited to finalize this partnership that will benefit the City, the Saints, and our entire Region. We are grateful to the Saints management and ownership team for their collaboration and the significant investments they’ve made in this facility.”
The Thompson Family Arena boasts an NHL-size ice surface, 360-degree bowl seating for 1,665 spectators (and more than 2,500 for non-ice events), a centre-mounted video scoreboard, modern concession facilities, and elevator access to the concourse level.
“We’re thrilled to call the Thompson Family Arena our new home,” said Lindsey Leckelt, Managing Partner of the Saints Founders Group. “This partnership ensures our players, fans, and community will enjoy a first-class experience in a venue that reflects the growth and excitement of Spruce Grove.”
The facility, built and managed by the City of Spruce Grove, features many turn-key amenities for fans to enjoy. In partnership with the City, the Saints further invested into the facility to enhance the overall experience for both Spruce Grove Saints games and other events hosted in the facility. The improvements include the Lexus Club, a two-tier VIP mezzanine, offering impressive sightlines of the arena along with its own private bar and washrooms. The centre-mounted video scoreboard, donated to the City by the Saints, will bring a new element of entertainment to Saints games, never experienced before, creating an interactive and professional game night experience for all fans to enjoy.
The Saints also built two luxury suites for an unmatched viewing experience, and a new merchandise store, further adding to the prestige of the Thompson Family Arena. Each of the suites include a centre-ice view with in-suite food and drink service. The merchandise store provides fans the opportunity to shop for Saints apparel easier than ever with a sleek design all while never having to miss the action.
The Saints kick off their inaugural season at Heavy Metal Place on Friday, September 19 when they host the Brooks Bandits. Tickets are on sale at tickets.sgsaints.ca .
