SPRUCE GROVE -- Councillor Jan Gillett is seeking re-election in the City of Spruce Grove.
Gillett was first elected to Council in 2021 and will be looking for her second term on October 20th. Prior to becoming an elected official, she spent several years working in the non-profit sector with youth and teen mothers. She says that if re-elected, some of the areas she would focus on would be related to community safety and access to transit.
"There's been a lot of unsafe activities, break and enters, I think we need to look at that, whether it's increased bylaw presence or RCMP presence," said Gillett in conversation with 88.1 The One. "We really need to take a look at community safety."
She received her business management education at McEwan University and also founded the Parkland Pregnancy Support Centre. In addition, she's also the co-owner of RavenWolf Brewing. Gillett says investing in commercial and industrial land would be another one of her top priorities if re-elected for a second time.
"Why that's important is because the tax base that you get from that helps keep your residential taxes in check," said Gillett. "So, that's important to have a balance in your community."
Gillett is also the former co-chair of the Winter Emergency Response Committee.
