LEDUC COUNTY -- Residents of three local municipalities are being encouraged to limit non-essential water use.
The water conservation measures are now in place for Leduc County, the City of Leduc, and the Town of Millet. This is due to the recent warm and dry weather across the region, which has put a strain on local water systems. The municipalities say the water-preserving measures are to ensure levels in water reservoirs remain sufficient for peak customer and firefighting demands.
In the City of Leduc, municipal staff has temporarily halted hydrant and sewer flushing, street cleaning, firefighting training, and fleet vehicle washing. They ask residents to limit non-essential water usage by limiting use of dishwashers and washing machines until necessary, reducing shower times and keeping baths shallow, limiting the use of humidifiers and ice machines, and turning off water taps when not in use. The City notes that the Leduc Spray Park uses recirculated water, and will continue to operate.
Meantime, the Town of Millet has taken additional steps to limit outdoor watering through its Water Bylaw. This means properties with a municipal civic address ending in an odd number may only water on odd-numbered days, and properties with a municipal address ending in an even number may only water on even-numbered days.
Residents are advised to check their respective municipal websites for the latest updates on water restrictions.
