THORSBY -- The Town of Thorsby's new bulk water station is officially open to the public.
The major amenity made its debut on Jan. 19, 2026, following years of planning and construction. It's located at the corner of 52 Street and 46 Avenue, and features an overhead fill arm, a three-inch camlock for truck fills, and a fill for recreational vehicles.
Thorsby Mayor Darryl Hostyn spoke with 93.1 The One about the process behind bringing the new bulk water station to life.
"We started with the engineering and what we wanted," said Mayor Hostyn. "Then we had to get money through the MSI, the sustainable grant organization for the government -- we got our funding through that."
He notes that 100 per cent of the total costs of the new bulk water station were covered by government grants. In a statement, the Town of Thorsby notes that the new station will be a way for the municipality to diversify the services that it offers to residents, rural partners, and those visiting the area.
"I think it's huge," said Hostyn. "We hope it's used every day, with the way water is nowadays, agricultural people are looking for water year-round for spraying, for their cattle, as well as for industry."
Hostyn believes that the new bulk water station will have a strong impact locally due to many factors, including its location and accessibility. He adds that the creation of the new amenity is also in alignment with, and furthers, Thorsby's goals with regional water distribution.
More information on specifications, costing, and how to set up an account/make payments can be found at the Town of Thorsby's website.
