LEDUC -- The City of Leduc continues to explore plans for a new youth centre in Kinsmen Park.

As part of the process, Leduc Council will be reviewing options for public engagement within the next few weeks. This comes as plans for the new youth centre were discussed last year following meetings with the Boys and Girls Club of Leduc. The matter was once again tabled during the City of Leduc's Council meeting on Mar. 23, 2026, as elected officials determined that Kinsmen Park would be the best option for the prospective youth centre.

"There's been a lot of work done with BGC already -- figuring out the site, understanding what could go there, and what that would look like," said Councillor Laura Tillack. "I do feel like that would be a good idea."

Council had previously discussed a number of possible options for the facility during closed session, including integration into the future West Campus Recreation Centre or use of existing leased or third-party spaces.

In April, a public engagement plan for the new youth centre is expected to be approved. This could include a streamlined process led by an external specialist that focuses on confirming community values, priorities, and acceptability thresholds. Councillor Shawn Raymond says it will be especially important to engage residents of the Corinthia Park neighbourhood.

"I definitely feel like that neighbourhood has a lot of buy-in as to what happens in that community," said Raymond. "Engaging that would be the best practice, specifically for that neighbourhood. Taking a look at this from the years that it’s been leading up to, I haven't heard of any other possible sites."

Some of the options for the public engagement process include have a short online survey, pop-up engagement sessions, and targeted stakeholder check-ins for feasibility and operational considerations. Leduc BGC has said previously that it hopes for the new youth centre to open in 2028.
