Province considers speed limit changes in Devon

DEVON -- Speed limit changes could be coming to a pair of highways in the Town of Devon.

This is according to a recent letter penned to Devon Mayor Jeff Craddock on behalf of Alberta's Ministry of Transportation and Economic Corridors. In the letter, the province specifies that the proposed changes are being explored for Highway 19 and Highway 60. They say the changes could come into effect after a provincial speed limit review, with the goal to "harmonize" speed limits in the area.

For Highway 60, the province wants to increase the speed limit between Miquelon Avenue to Athabasca Avenue from 70 km/h to 80 km/h. Then, for Highway 19, the plan is to increase the speed limit between the Devonian Trail and Highway 60 from 80 km/h to 100 km/h.

Alberta's Ministry of Transportation and Economic Corridors notes that their speed limit review will assess the feasibility of raising the speed limits and identify associated costs, such as signage, road redesign, engineering, and other capital expenditures. Once the review is complete, the province says they will reach out to administration in the Town of Devon to share their findings and outline the next steps.
