MILLET -- One person has died after a serious two-vehicle crash near Millet.
According to police, the incident occurred shortly before 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 4. It's reported that an SUV collided head-on with a school bus on Highway 814 at Township Road 480 near Millet.
Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after, as upon their arrival, the driver and sole occupant of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. The deceased was identified as a 70-year-old male Sherwood Park resident.
Police say the school bus had a total of five occupants, including four students. None of these occupants were injured during the collision, according to authorities. Members with the RCMP remained on scene for several hours to conduct an initial investigation.
Although the investigation into the cause is still in its early phases, police believe poor road conditions may have been a contributing factor. Earlier in the day, RCMP had issued a traffic advisory due to a dangerous mix of snow and rain pummeling roads between Edmonton and Red Deer. They asked residents to avoid travel if possible, as slippery conditions created hazards for drivers.
