LEDUC -- Local RCMP detachments responded to the rollover of a semi-truck on Wednesday night.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 5:30 pm on Highway 2, approximately two kilometres south of Airport Road. The driver of the semi-truck is noted to have slightly driven off the road and over-corrected while trying to steady himself. This caused the truck to flip onto its side and slide along the highway before coming to a stop.
RCMP Corporal Troy Savinkoff says that luckily, no other vehicles were caught up in the incident.
"It is the QE2 so you always worry about heavy traffic, especially in that particular area there's a lot of traffic at that time of day," said Cpl. Savinkoff. "Fortunately, in this case, the only vehicle involved in the collision was the semi-truck."
RCMP and other emergency crews were on scene during the evening to help with clean-up, while the driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Cpl. Savinkoff also notes that road conditions were not a factor in the crash.
"I think it was a matter of -- for whatever reason -- the truck driver meandered off the centre of his lane," said Savinkoff. "He rubbed the shoulder and over-corrected in an attempt to straighten the vehicle which caused it to roll."
The driver of the semi-truck was handed a ticket for failing to drive centre-of-lane.
