Leduc's Fire Hall #3 slated for completion this fall

LEDUC -- The City of Leduc's new fire hall is expected to be fully operational by early next year.

Ground was broken on the $14,000,000 project in early 2025 as part of an effort by the municipality to boost its emergency response capabilities. Kyle Van Steenoven -- Director of Engineering with the City of Leduc -- says work on the new fire hall has progressed on schedule since that time, and that contractors are expected to transfer the building to the municipality in late 2026.

"Right now, we are working on completing the interior of the building. We're in the final stages of things like paint and finishes, with the exterior largely complete," said Van Steenoven. "For our current timelines, we're expecting this building to be handed back over to the City in early fall of this year -- with us being well on time for a fully functional fire hall in early 2027."

Fire Hall #3 will be located in the City of Leduc's industrial park; a couple blocks east of 46 Avenue on 65 Avenue. It will feature an apparatus bay with two double-length bays, six dormitories, gear storage, offices, maintenance rooms and more. Van Steenoven notes that there will also be a live exercise training centre located adjacent to the main building.

"That area is composed of two structures -- one of them is a concrete two-storey tower that allows them to practice things like retrieval or ladder use, or getting in and out of buildings," said Van Steenoven. "There's another section that's actually able to be set on fire, where they can practice live fire evacuations."

Between the ongoing construction and the prior design phase, work on the new fire hall has been underway for 3.5 years.
