Leduc reports continued rise in new development activity

LEDUC -- 2025 was a strong year for new development in the City of Leduc.

According to the City's latest Planning and Economic Development report, Leduc recorded a 45 per cent increase in construction value from 2024 to last year. This comes as the municipality brought in $331,325,455 in total construction value in 2025, up from $217,811,848 the year prior. These revenues were primarily driven by a rise in residential development across the municipality.

Meantime, the City of Leduc received 1,390 building permits last year, up from 1,200 in 2024. December was the strongest month of the year for new building permit revenue, as $38,356,990 was generated, followed closely by September at $36,035,293.

There were 440 planning applications submitted in the fourth quarter of last year, well ahead of the 330 from 2024, 267 from 2023, and 167 from 2022. The City of Leduc was especially busy in terms of its development for Grayson Estates, adopting the amended West Area ASP, Outline Plan, Redistricting Bylaw, and Direct Control Bylaw.

Leduc staff note that 2025 was also a record year with the highest number of safety code permits to date. This comes as the total number of safety code permits was 8,066, with the next highest recorded total being 7,552 in 2007. The City also completed 14,304 safety code inspections, with the previous record being 9,607 in 2024.

Despite the strong development numbers from last year, the City says that it saw a decrease in the number of new business permits they received. There were 478 new permits submitted last year, down from 504 the year prior.
