Five youths charged after break-and-enter in Leduc

LEDUC -- Leduc RCMP have charged five youths after a break-and-enter on Monday night. 

The Mounties say the incident occurred at around 8:00 p.m. on June 23rd at a residence in the area of 48th Street and 46th Avenue. They note that authorities were notified of the situation by nearby neighbours, who reported five suspicious individuals entering the dwelling. Constable Lindsay McNab says police attended the scene and arrested a total of five individuals.

"Between the five youths, a total of nineteen criminal charges were laid," said Cst. McNab. "These include break-and-enter to a residence, mischief over $5000, and being unlawfully in a dwelling house." 

She says that the five individuals were held for a judicial interim release hearing, and released with multiple conditions. She also notes that no one was home at the time of the break-in, and that none of the suspects were in possession of any weapons at the time of their arrests. Meantime, Cst. McNab credits the diligence of nearby neighbours for reporting the incident to police.

"It was thanks to community members for keeping an eye out," said Cst. McNab. "What was happening appeared suspicious, so that's what prompted them to call 9-1-1."

The Leduc RCMP encourages residents to continue reporting suspicious activity by calling 310-RCMP (7267) or calling 9-1-1 in case of an emergency.
